A Great Day for Soup (12/19/2025)

Every day, after my morning prayers, writing the blog and checking on the state of the world according to the newscasters, I turn my attention to what’s for dinner. While I was checking on the news, I learned that the weather was going to be a horrible mixture ending with dropping temps. So, I was thinking of something that would warm my husband and I in the evening. I checked the freezer and saw bags of veggies I needed to use as well as several scraps of beef I’d thrown in for eventual soup or stew. And WaLa…I knew the answer. It was a great day for soup.

Don’t you know? Life’s like that. Daily, we are called to make choices, and our choices have an impact on others. Sometimes we are limited by what we have. Sometimes we are limited by external factors and conditions beyond our control. But always, we are called to choose wisely. And always, from the beginning, we are called to choose lovingly, in ways that build up our relationships with the LORD and with one another.

Choosing is something the LORD has taken the lead on and shown how it is done. During this time of year, we see into the heart and mind of the LORD who chose to send His only-begotten Son, His Word, a full expression of Himself, to dwell among us, to bring light to our darkness, to illuminate the world with His wisdom and His love, to show us the way, to teach us the truth and to open for us life in abundance.

During this third week of preparations and anticipation, let us take time to contemplate the joy of Mary and Joseph as the birth of Jesus approached. Let us consider what we can do to make our world a more welcoming place for our LORD and others. Let us consider what we have at our disposal that could make a difference if offered with love. Let us choose wisely. Let us choose lovingly knowing that our choices matter, our choices impact others. We learned this from our LORD.

Until tomorrow, let us all love well.
