A Hall Full of Hope (8/17/2023)

Last night I attended a meeting for the parish catechists for this coming year. As I sat in my chair, reading through my material, I would look up whenever a new person arrived. My heart was so lifted as I realized that I was the oldest person in the room and that to my left and to my right there were so many younger souls who had picked up the torch of faith and were ready to give of their lives, their time, their experiences, their talents to share that with the next generation. I’m not saying it is time for me to put down the torch, I believe I am to share the Light of Christ as long as I live, but it did this old girl’s heart a world of good to see so many younger than me by my side joining in the mission of bringing Christ to others and others to Christ. The Spirit is at work in our world!

As I think about it this morning again, I give thanks to the LORD of the harvest for sending so many workers. I pray that more “workers” will hear the LORD’s loving call and respond with a resounding “Yes.” We’ve so much that needs to be done in our communities and so few to do it: welcome others, care for the physical needs of others, prepare for our worship gatherings, hand on the faith to our children, and continue to feed the faith of all generations, just to name a few.

And I ask all of us on the journey to search our minds, our hearts, and our calendars – what has the LORD equipped us to do that would further His kingdom on earth? We aren’t called to do it all by ourselves, but we are called to do everything we can at the moment. If we all bring our presence, our gifts, our time as we can, imagine what we can do. Last evening gave me hope. This morning I pray to the LORD to help us all be good stewards of the precious time we have, of the host of gifts we’ve been given, and of our resources to spend on the mission of bringing Christ to others and others to Christ.

I love a day with Hope. How about you?
