A Helping Hand (06/24/2026)

Yesterday, I went in search of a houseplant to give as a welcoming gift to our neighborhood’s newest neighbors. After several stops at various stores, I finally found the perfect plant, a beautiful zebra plant, at the local market. It was so pretty, I bought one for myself as well. And did I mention that while I was there, I realized I needed potatoes, so I picked up a bag of those. I foolishly decided I could carry the box of two plants in one hand and the potatoes in the other. Fortunately, a dear friend was heading in as I was heading out, recognized my foolish overload and took the plants. Together we walked to my car and chatted. I was so grateful for her presence and help. God does look after fools and short Irish women.
It happens. We foolishly overload ourselves. What a blessing we receive when another lends us a helping hand whether with material and weighty objects or with emotional cargo that weighs down the heart and soul. Sometimes, we carry both, and in one moment of generosity and companionship, both burdens can be lightened. I know that yesterday was an example of that.
As we journey in faith, hope and love, let us be on the lookout for others who could use a helping hand and a conversation along the way. Let us remember that our journeys were never about speed but rather about relationships. And may we take the time when the moments present themselves to stop and be there for another. And may we give thanks to the LORD and to the one who stops for us and recognize the gift we have received in that encounter.
Until tomorrow, let us all love well.
