A Late-Night Review (08/27/2026)

Last night as I sat on the porch in prayer, pondering my day, seeking to glean the lessons sown within the moments and encounters, and thanking the LORD for everything from the gift of time to the grace of patience, the full moon illuminated my world. And I just sat and enjoyed one of the wonders of my Creator’s power and reminders of His eternal presence.

It was beautiful. As I looked at it, I remembered learning about the solar system in school. While I was taught about the sun and moon and planets early on, it wasn’t until middle school and Sr. John Michelle that I learned more about the moon and that the light I see isn’t the moon’s, it doesn’t emit light on its own, rather, the moon reflects the light of the sun. And she told us all at that time, “You are like the moon. You are to reflect the light of our “sun” – the light of Christ.”

I didn’t totally understand her words at that age. That’s the way learning is sometimes, even learning our faith. Sometimes it requires experiencing it through others to know how we can be such instruments. But thankfully, I’ve had lots of experience. I recognize Christ’s moons among us when their faces light up and their eyes meet mine, and though they don’t say it, I can hear it, “I see you.” I recognize Christ’s moons among us when I see the joyful servant, setting aside what they are doing to help another along the way. I recognize Christ’s moons among us when I see them listening to another weighed down with their burdens. I recognize Christ’s moons among us as individuals who reflect Christ’s love which they themselves know.

Last night, before I called it a night and packed away my thoughts and my late night review, I thanked the LORD for a reminder of who He is and who I am called to be because of Him and His love. Tonight, may we all have the opportunity to look up into the sky, take in that radiant Sturgeon Moon, and ask the LORD for the grace to be His moon among us.
