Choices (09/26/2025)

You and I will make a multitude of decisions today; we do every day. Today I will celebrate once again a decision I made that I will always thank the LORD for making. I showed up to help with a fund raiser 57 years ago, and I met Kenneth, my partner that day, and we’ve been a team ever since. God writes straight with crooked lines. Daily, I thank the LORD for the choice that day and the goodness that came into my life through it.

This morning, I have spent quite a few moments recalling that moment as well as playing memory snippets of our lives since then. I do this every year to remind myself of how blessed I am but also of the importance of choices.

Today we will face many choices, some small and some huge. Daily the LORD lets us exercise our free will. But we can’t demand the right to choose for ourselves if we don’t insist on choosing wisely and lovingly.  

As we continue on our journeys of faith, let us spend some time remembering the goodness that has entered our lives because we said “yes” to an invitation to serve others. Let us open ourselves more fully to the goodness that is possible when we believe that what we do, no matter how seemingly small, can change the world beginning with us. Let us hold to the truth that the LORD loves us and graces us moment to moment. And let us show up as workers in the vineyard for the love and glory of our LORD. And let us be open to the surprises the LORD has in store for us.
