LECTIO - Read Scripture Text: 1 Corinthians 11:23-26
I received from the Lord that which I have given to you, namely, that the Lord Jesus the very night in which he was betrayed took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, “Take, eat. This is my body which is broken for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” Then, in the same manner, he also took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this as often as you drink it in remembrance of me.” For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you show the Lord’s death until He comes again.
MEDITATIO - Meditate on text, allow the LORD to touch us with His Word:
“received from the Lord” – “Take, eat” – Christ’s gift of self for us and for our salvation and life
“new covenant” – gift of Christ himself in Eucharist - ultimately in His passion, death and resurrection – binding us – sealed with His blood
ORATIO – Lifting our minds and hearts to the LORD in prayer:
Lord, Jesus Christ, Son of God, our Savior, this day, as I begin the holiest of days, I recall your gift of self to us in the Eucharist – the new covenant – and in your passion, death and resurrection. You offered yourself, though You were sinless, as reparation for our sins and ransom for our lives though we are sinners. Send your Spirit to stir within me and rouse within me the commitment to You as your disciple that You deserve. Grant that I may hold within my mind, my memory, my heart, and my very being always the recognition of the price You paid for us, for me, for love of the Father and love of us, your sisters and brothers. May this day bring me closer to being the disciple You call me to be, the child of God I was created to be, in right relationship with You and with all my sisters and brothers. Amen.
CONTEMPLATIO – Sitting with the LORD in silence for a minute or more
