Daily Scripture Reflection & Prayer: August 10,2026

LECTIO - Read Scripture Text:   John 12:24-26

Jesus said to his disciples: “Amen, amen, I say to you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains just a kernel of wheat. But if it dies, it brings forth much fruit. Whoever loves his life shall lose it, and whoever hates his life in this world shall keep it for eternal life. Anyone who serves me must follow me, and where I am, there, too, will my servant be. Anyone who serves me, my Father will honor.”

MEDITATIO - Meditate on text, allow the LORD to touch us with His Word:

Am I too concerned for myself and my life here? How willing am I to suffer and serve for love of Christ and others?

BREAKING OPEN THE TEXT:

In today’s gospel, Jesus calls us to radical discipleship and breaks open for us the true nature of His paschal mystery teaching us that spiritual fruitfulness requires self-sacrifice and death to selfishness. In calling us to “hate” our lives in this world, Jesus is calling us to detach from the ambitions and comforts of this world and instead strive to be true and loving servants of our Lord.

ORATIO – Lifting our minds and hearts to the LORD in prayer:

LORD, teach us your Way. Help us to let go of our selfish desires and to follow where You want to lead us. Illuminate our minds and conform our hearts so that we might more closely follow You. We put our souls in your hands. Amen.
