Daily Scripture Reflection & Prayer: August 13,2026

LECTIO - Read Scripture Text:   1 Peter 4:12-19 (optional memorial of Saints Pontian)

Beloved, do not think it strange that a trial by fire is happening among you as if something strange were happening to you. But rejoice because you are partaking in Christ’s sufferings so that when His glory will be revealed, you will rejoice exceedingly.

If you are reproached for the name of Christ, blessed are you, for the spirit of glory and of God rest upon you. On their part, he is reviled, but on your part, he is glorified.

Let no one suffer as a murderer or a thief or an evildoer or a busybody in the matters of others. Yet if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God because of the name. For the time is coming that judgment must begin at the house of God. And if it begins with us, what shall the end for those that disobey the Gospel of God?

And if the righteous are scarcely saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear? Therefore, let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator.

MEDITATIO - Meditate on text, allow the LORD to touch us with His Word:

Do I accept the suffering that comes in our modern world to those who live in Christ’s name and give honor and glory to Christ?

BREAKING OPEN THE TEXT:

In the text from Peter’s 1^st Letter, he urges us to willingly share in Christ’s sufferings because of our love for Him and to bring honor and glory to His name. He differentiates between the sufferings of the faithful and the deserved punishment for wrongdoing. He calls us to open ourselves to the Spirit of God who will carry us in times of persecution and to entrust our souls to our faithful and loving Creator.

ORATIO – Lifting our minds and hearts to the LORD in prayer:

LORD, Almighty Father, send the Spirit to steady my mind and to give me the courage needed to endure the trials of following in your beloved Son’s footsteps. Grant that I have the grace to share in His sufferings with joy. Guard me from shame, help me be an instrument of loving good in this world, empower me to entrust my soul to You. Amen.
