Date: Feast of the Transfiguration of the LORD
Scripture Text: 2 PT 1:16-19
Beloved:
We did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we had been eyewitnesses of his majesty. For he received honor and glory from God the Father when that unique declaration came to him from the majestic glory, “This is my Son, my beloved, with whom I am well pleased.” We ourselves heard this voice come from heaven while we were with him on the holy mountain. Moreover, we possess the prophetic message that is altogether reliable. You will do well to be attentive to it, as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.
Breaking the text open – background and summary:
The second reading for today as we celebrate the Transfiguration of the LORD is from the 2nd Letter of Peter in which Peter urges us to be attentive, to hopefully seek Christ, the Son of God.
Meditating on the text with personal questions:
Do I seek Christ? Do I actively seek the LORD?
Praying:
LORD, Almighty Father, You sent your beloved Son, Jesus Christ, to dwell among us, to reveal your great love for us, to teach us through word and example how You desire that we should live as your daughters and sons. Send your Spirit to strengthen our resolve to live as Christ calls us to live, to be light to others as He is the Light of the World. Grant that we may desire fiercely His light in the darkness and carve out room in our hearts for You and your beloved Son. We ask this in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with You and the Spirit, one LORD, for ever and ever. Amen.
