Daily Scripture Reflection & Prayer: August 8,2026

LECTIO - Read Scripture Text:   Matthew 17: 14-20

A man approached Jesus, knelt down before him, and said, “Lord, have pity on my son who is a lunatic suffering severely. Frequently he falls into fire and often into water. I brought him to your disciples, but could not heal him” Jesus said in reply, “O faithless and perverse generation, how long will I be with you? How long will I endure you? Bring the boy here to me.” Jesus rebuked him and the demon came out of him. From that hour the boy was cured.

Then the disciples drew near to Jesus privately and asked, “Why could we not drive it out?” He said to them, “Because of your insufficient faith. Amen, I say to you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”

MEDITATIO - Meditate on text, allow the LORD to touch us with His Word:

Do I humbly and perpetually acknowledge my faith, my trust and my love for the LORD? Or am I saving it for “prayer time”?

BREAKING OPEN THE TEXT:

In today’s short gospel reading, Jesus heals a man’s son who had been possessed after the disciples were unable to do so. Jesus warn us of the lack of faith throughout our lives and the benefits of maintaining our humble reliance upon the LORD based on faith.

ORATIO – Lifting our minds and hearts to the LORD in prayer:

LORD, I do believe. Send your Spirit to help me bring that belief, that faith to maturity and to bring it to every moment of my life. Grant that I may realize and celebrate my reliance upon You every moment of my life. Amen.

CONTEMPLATIO – Sitting with the LORD in silence for a minute or more
