Date: Wednesday of the 2nd Week of Advent

Scripture Text:  Matthew 11:28-30

Jesus said to the crowds: "Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for yourselves. For my yoke is easy, and my burden light."

Breaking the text open – background and summary:

In today’s Gospel, Jesus calls us to “come to me” and promises us rest from the weights of the world if we will accept Him and His gentle and humble “yoke” which binds us to Him and offers us a share in the peace that only He can provide.

Meditating on the text with personal questions:

Am I open to yoking myself to Christ, allowing Him to lead me humbly and gently?

Praying:

LORD, Jesus Christ, Son of God, my Savior, I so want the peace and rest You offer to me. I want to accept You wholly and sincerely and allow your love for me and for the Father Almighty to steer me through this life. Send your Spirit to help me to surrender to You and to your loving care. Fill me with your peace that is only possible in union with You for You share the load, the burden of this life. Guide me in your divine wisdom. Amen.
