Date: 4th Sunday of Advent
Scripture Text: Psalm 24:1-2, 3-4, 5-6.
R. (7c and 10b) Let the Lord enter; he is king of glory.
The LORD's are the earth and its fullness;
the world and those who dwell in it.
For he founded it upon the seas
and established it upon the rivers.
R. Let the Lord enter; he is king of glory.
Who can ascend the mountain of the LORD?
or who may stand in his holy place?
One whose hands are sinless, whose heart is clean,
who desires not what is vain.
R. Let the Lord enter; he is king of glory.
He shall receive a blessing from the LORD,
a reward from God his savior.
Such is the race that seeks for him,
that seeks the face of the God of Jacob.
R. Let the Lord enter; he is king of glory.
Breaking the text open – background and summary:
The responsorial psalm for this final Sunday of Advent reminds us of the LORD’s power and presence, manifestations of His love, and of the need for us to seek the LORD with all our heart, mind and strength.
Meditating on the text with personal questions:
Do I daily seek the LORD, seek to spend time with the LORD consciously and to discern the LORD’s will for me?
Praying:
LORD, we seek You with all our mind, all our heart, all our strength. We recognize that all good and all life flow from You and that You have a will for all, a divine plan for us for which You gift us and to which You call us. Grant that we may discern your will and seek to live as the daughters and sons You created us to be, as the disciples You call us to be, as your living dwelling here on earth. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
