Daily Scripture Reflection & Prayer: December 24, 2023

Date:  4th Sunday of Advent

 Scripture Text:  Romans 16:25-27

Brothers and sisters: To him who can strengthen you, according to my gospel and the proclamation of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery kept secret for long ages but now manifested through the prophetic writings and, according to the command of the eternal God, made known to all nations to bring about the obedience of faith, to the only wise God, through Jesus Christ be glory forever and ever. Amen.

Breaking the text open – background and summary:

 It is fitting that on the eve of the celebration of Christmas that our second reading for the day focus on the praise of the LORD, the source of all goodness, the source of all truth, the source of light and love. This doxology is the conclusion of Paul’s Letter to the Romans. In it, the writer gives glory to the LORD whose mystery of salvation is revealed through Jesus Christ.

Meditating on the text with personal questions:

 Do I prayerfully seek the strength of the LORD in my life? Do I seek Christ, “the way, the truth, and the life”? Do I recognize Christ as “the vine” and myself as a branch who can do nothing without the vine?

Praying:

LORD, I am because of You, “I AM.” Without You, LORD, I would not be. Without You, LORD, I could not live. Hold me to Yourself, LORD, and allow me to draw upon your eternal love for my strength and direction through this life on my journey to You in fullness. Amen.
