Date: Christmas
Scripture Text: Luke 2:15-20
When the angels went away from them to heaven,
the shepherds said to one another,
“Let us go, then, to Bethlehem
to see this thing that has taken place,
which the Lord has made known to us.”
So, they went in haste
and found Mary and Joseph,
and the infant lying in the manger.
When they saw this,
they made known the message
that had been told them about this child.
All who heard it were amazed
by what had been told them by the shepherds.
And Mary kept all these things,
reflecting on them in her heart.
Then the shepherds returned,
glorifying and praising God
for all they had heard and seen,
just as it had been told to them.
Breaking the text open – background and summary:
The gospel reading from Christmas Mass at Dawn recounts the shepherds’ visit to Jesus, Mary and Joseph in Bethlehem following Jesus’ birth.
Meditating on the text with personal questions:
Do I go out of my way to seek out Jesus?
Praying:
LORD, Jesus Christ, Son of God, our Savior, this day we celebrate your birth and the gift of your presence among us. You are the Light of the World. You are the Way and the Truth and the Life. You are the Prince of Peace. Send your Spirit to open our minds and hearts and very souls to You and your transformative love. Grant that through our love of You and our lives lived through You, we may give glory to the Father who shares You with us. Amen.
