R. (39a) The salvation of the just comes from the Lord.
Trust in the LORD and do good,
that you may dwell in the land and be fed in security.
Take delight in the LORD,
and he will grant you your heart's requests.
R. The salvation of the just comes from the Lord.
The LORD watches over the lives of the wholehearted;
their inheritance lasts forever.
They are not put to shame in an evil time;
in days of famine they have plenty.
R. The salvation of the just comes from the Lord.
Turn from evil and do good,
that you may abide forever;
For the LORD loves what is right,
and forsakes not his faithful ones.
R. The salvation of the just comes from the Lord.
The salvation of the just is from the LORD;
he is their refuge in time of distress.
And the LORD helps them and delivers them;
he delivers them from the wicked and saves them,
because they take refuge in him.
R. The salvation of the just comes from the Lord.
Breaking the text open – background and summary:
The responsorial psalm for today reminds us of the LORD’s power and presence in the lives of those who love Him with all their being and who turn to the LORD in times of distress and need.
Meditating on the text with personal questions:
Is the LORD my first “go to” when I am in need or distress? Do I love the LORD with my mind, heart, and soul?
Praying:
LORD, Almighty Father, Beloved Son Jesus Christ, Most Holy Spirit, always and everywhere You are there for us. You created us, You saved us from sin and death through your own selfless sacrifice, and You strengthen us and guide us in times of distress and need. Stir within us. Increase our resolve always and everywhere to be your child, your disciple, your temple here on earth. Abide with us, LORD, as we seek daily to remain in You. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
