Daily Scripture Reflection & Prayer: July 13,2026

LECTIO - Read Scripture Text:   Isaiah 1:10-17

“Hear the word of the LORD, you rulers of Sodom. Give ear to the law of our God, you people of Gomorrah. ‘What is the purpose of the multitude of your sacrifices to me?’ asks the LORD. I am full of the burnt offerings of rams and the fat of fed beast. I do not delight in the blood of bullocks or of lambs or goats. Who has required this of you when come before me and tread my courts? Bring no more vain oblations. Incense is an abomination to me. The new moons and sabbaths, the calling of assemblies is iniquity to me. Your new moons and your appointed feasts I hate. They are a trouble to me. I am weary of them. And when you spread your hands, I hide my eyes from you. Though your prayers are numerous, I will not hear because your hands are full of blood. Wash your hands, make yourself clean. Put away the evil of your doings from before my eyes. Cease to do evil. Learn to do well, seek righteousness, relieve the oppressed, hear the orphan’s plea, defend the widow.”

MEDITATIO - Meditate on text, allow the LORD to touch us with His Word:

Do I choose the public show and outward signs rather than internal conversion and humble embrace of my LORD’s love?

BREAKING OPEN THE TEXT:

In this reading from Isaiah, we hear the LORD’s condemnation of hypocritical rituals without any connection to authentic moral living and humble, heartfelt worship.

ORATIO – Lifting our minds and hearts to the LORD in prayer:

Lord, create in me a pure heart. O God, renew a steadfast spirit within me. (Ps. 51:10)

CONTEMPLATIO – Sitting with the LORD in silence for a minute or more
