Scripture Text: Matthew 11:25-27
At that time Jesus exclaimed:
"I give praise to you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for although you have hidden these things from the wise and the learned you have revealed them to the childlike. Yes, Father, such has been your gracious will. All things have been handed over to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son wishes to reveal him."
Breaking the text open – background and summary:
Today’s gospel text is Jesus’ prayer of praise to the Father Almighty in which He acknowledges that as the Son, He is the Word of God, the expression of the Father, and through Him we come to know and see the Father and His loving power and presence.
Meditating on the text with personal questions:
Do I recognize in Jesus Christ the loving and present Father Almighty who sent Him to us as our brother and Savior?
Praying:
LORD, Almighty Father, I give your thanks for the gift of your only-begotten Son. Through Him, His words, His actions, His sacrifice, and His love poured out for us, I have come to better see your love for me. Send your Spirit to stir that love within me so that it might more perfectly flavor my whole being and my whole life. Grant that I may grow into the one You created me to be and the disciple Jesus calls me to be. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
