Daily Scripture Reflection & Prayer: July 24,2026

LECTIO - Read Scripture Text:   Matthew 13:18-23

Jesus told his disciples: “Hear the parable of the sower. The seed sown on the path is the one who hears the word of the Kingdom without taking it in, and the evil ones comes and plucks out what was sown in his heart. The seed sown on rocky ground is the one who hears the word and receives it enthusiastically. But he has no root and lasts only for a time. When some tribulation or persecution comes because of the word, he immediately falls away. The seed sown among thorns is the one who hears the word, but then worldly cares and the illusions of riches strangle the word, and it becomes unfruitful. But the seed sown on rich soil is the one who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and yields a hundred or sixty of thirtyfold.”

MEDITATIO - Meditate on text, allow the LORD to touch us with His Word:

Am I receptive to the Word of the LORD and the faith that flows from that word? Do I allow the world and its temptations and anxieties to render the Word fruitless?

BREAKING OPEN THE TEXT:

Jesus explains the parable of the sower: the LORD is the Sower, the Word of the LORD is the seed, and the individual is the soil – in various degrees of receptivity.

ORATIO – Lifting our minds and hearts to the LORD in prayer:

Come, Holy Spirit, and till my mind, my heart, and my soul and tenderize them so that I am receptive to the Word. Grant that I may receive the Word and bear fruit for love of and the glory of the LORD and for my own happiness and spiritual wellbeing.

CONTEMPLATIO – Sitting with the LORD in silence for a minute or more
