LECTIO - Read Scripture Text:   Matthew 13:31-35

Jesus put forth another parable to the crowds. “The Kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed that a person took and sowed in a field. It is the smallest of seeds, but when full grown it is the largest of plants. It becomes a large bush that the birds of the sky come and dwell in its branches.”

He told them another parable, “The Kingdom of heaven is like yeast that a woman took and mixed with three measures of wheat flour leavening the whole batch.”

All these things Jesus told the crowds in parables. He spoke to them only in parables, to fulfill what had been said through the prophets: I will open my mouth in parables, I will announce what has been hidden from the foundation of the world.

MEDITATIO - Meditate on text, allow the LORD to touch us with His Word:

Do I grow impatient in faith? Do I have the loving hope that I need to persevere in the LORD?

BREAKING OPEN THE TEXT:

Jesus’ parables teach us that the Kingdom of God has humble beginnings but glorious growth affecting all.

ORATIO – Lifting our minds and hearts to the LORD in prayer:

LORD, your ways are not my ways, but I know your ways lead to a goodness that exceeds anything I could even dream of in this world. Tenderize my will so that I can more perfectly surrender to your will, to your way, to the purpose You have woven within me. Grant that I may grow into the one You created me to be, the one You call me to be. Amen.

CONTEMPLATIO – Sitting with the LORD in silence for a minute or more
