Date: Feast of St. Thomas, the Apostle

Scripture Text:  Ephesians 2:19-22

Brothers and sisters:

You are no longer strangers and sojourners, but you are fellow citizens with the holy ones and members of the household of God, built upon the foundation of the Apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the capstone. Through him the whole structure is held together and grows into a temple sacred in the Lord; in him you also are being built together into a dwelling place of God in the Spirit.

Breaking the text open – background and summary:

The first reading for today is taken from the Letter to the Ephesians and speaks of the blessings bestowed upon the true followers of Jesus Christ.

Meditating on the text with personal questions:

Am I seeking to remain in Christ as He asked me to: “Remain in me and I will remain in you” (John 15:4)?

Praying:

LORD, Almighty Father, we give You thanks for the gift of your beloved Son, Jesus Christ, who shared in our human nature in all ways except sin, and who selflessly offered himself for the redemption of humanity. Send your Spirit to stir within us the steadfastness of true disciples so that we might remain in Him as He continues His salvific mission in our world in us, with us and through us. We ask this in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with You and the Spirit, one LORD, forever and ever. Amen.
