Daily Scripture Reflection & Prayer: July 8,2026

LECTIO - Read Scripture Text:   Matthew 10:1-7

Jesus called to himself his twelve disciples, and he gave them power over unclean spirits to cast them out and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease. Now the names of the twelve apostles are these: first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James, the son of Zebedee and his brother John; Philip and Bartholomew, Thomas and Matthew the tax collector, James the son of Alphaeus and Thaddeus, Simon the Cananean, and Judas Iscariot who betrayed Jesus.

Jesus sent these twelve out after instructing them, “Do not go to pagan territory or enter a Samaritan town. But rather go to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. And as you go, proclaim, ‘The Kingdom of heaven is at hand.’”

MEDITATIO - Meditate on text, allow the LORD to touch us with His Word:

What is Jesus asking me to do? How is He asking me to participate in His ongoing mission?

BREAKING OPEN THE TEXT:

In today’s gospel, Jesus calls his disciples to share in His mission and the ministry of proclaiming the Kingdom and ministering to the people.

ORATIO – Lifting our minds and hearts to the LORD in prayer:

Lord Jesus Christ, as your disciple, I open my mind and heart and soul to You and your call to me. Send your Spirit to help me discern my role in your ongoing mission here on earth. Give me the courage to deny myself, pick up my cross, and follow wherever You lead me. Amen.
