Daily Scripture Reflection & Prayer: June 11,2026

LECTIO - Read Scripture Text: Matthew 5:20-26

(Jesus said to His disciples)

 “I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you shall not enter the kingdom of heaven. You have heard it said by your ancestors, you shall not kill and whoever kills is in danger of judgment. But I say to you that whoever is angry with his brother without cause shall be in danger of judgment. And whoever shall say to his brother, ‘Raca,’ shall be answerable to the Sanhedrin, and shall call another “fool” shall be in danger of the fire of hell. Therefore, if you bring your gift to the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift before the altar and go first and reconcile with your brother. Then come and offer your gift. Settle with your adversary quickly while on the way to court with him. Otherwise, your adversary will hand you over to the judge and the judge will hand you over to the guard and you will be thrown into prison. Amen, I tell you, you will not be released until you have paid the last penny,”

MEDITATIO - Meditate on text, allow the LORD to touch us with His Word:

Do I respect others as Jesus calls me to in His Sermon? Do I seek to reconcile, to honor relationships?

BREAKING OPEN THE TEXT:

As we continue with Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount, we hear Jesus teach us more about righteousness that surpasses simply following the rules.

ORATIO – Lifting our minds and hearts to the LORD in prayer:

Lord, You created me from love for love, and You call me to love my sisters and brothers as I want to be loved. Send your Spirit to guide me in my relationships with others. Help me to choose the loving way rather than my way. Grant that I may be a person of reconciliation whenever possible, building relationships for love of You. Amen.

CONTEMPLATIO – Sitting with the LORD in silence for a minute or more
