Date: Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity

Scripture Text:  Romans 5:1-5

Brothers and sisters:

Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith to this grace in which we stand, and we boast in hope of the glory of God. Not only that, but we even boast of our afflictions, knowing that affliction produces endurance, and endurance, proven character, and proven character, hope, and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us.

Breaking the text open – background and summary:

The second reading for today features Paul’s Letter to the Romans in which Paul reminds the faithful of our hope that does not disappoint. Acknowledging that we will encounter hardships and trial, Paul assures us that through the power of the Spirit, we will build endurance and proven character because of the love the LORD has poured into their hearts.

Meditating on the text with personal questions:

Do I turn to the LORD in my need and in the midst of trials? Do I open myself to the Spirit and the Spirit’s gifts?

Praying:

LORD, Almighty Father, Beloved Son, Most Holy Spirit, this day, as we acknowledge and honor You and your loving unity, we ask that You bless us as we seek to live as You created us to live as your daughters and sons, as You have called us to live as your brother and disciples, and as your living temple here on earth. Stir within us your love which illuminates our faith. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be world without end. Amen.
