Daily Scripture Reflection & Prayer: June 20,2026

LECTIO - Read Scripture Text:   Matthew 6: 24-34

(Jesus said to his disciples,) “No man can serve two masters; either he will hate the one and love the other or he will hold to the one and despise the other. One cannot serve God and mammon.

“Therefore, I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you shall eat or what you shall drink or how you shall clothe yourself. Is not life more than meat and the body more than adornment? Behold, the birds of the air do not sow nor do they reap nor gather into barns, but your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not more important than them?

“Which of you can add one cubit to his stature with worry? And why worry about what you will wear? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow. They do not toil or spin. And yet I say to you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Therefore, if God can so clothe the grass of the field which is here today and tomorrow cast into the oven, will He not also clothe you, o you of little faith?

“Therefore, worry not about what you shall eat or what you shall drink or how you will be clothed. For your heavenly Father knows what you need in all these areas. But instead, seek you the kingdom of God and His righteousness first, and all these things shall be added unto you. Worry not about tomorrow for tomorrow will take care of itself. Sufficient to the day is its own evil.”

MEDITATIO - Meditate on text, allow the LORD to touch us with His Word:

Do I let anxiety about the future rob the importance of being present? Do I trust in divine providence? Is my true devotion to the LORD or to possessions?

BREAKING OPEN THE TEXT:

In today’s portion of Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount, Jesus reminds us of the Heavenly Father’s providential care and love and calls us to true devotion to our LORD rather than to possessions or wealth.

ORATIO – Lifting our minds and hearts to the LORD in prayer:

LORD, open my eyes to your providence and my heart to your perpetual love. Send your Spirit to stir within me so that I might more wholly devote myself to You. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
