Scripture Text:  Matthew 7:1-5

Jesus said to his disciples:

"Stop judging, that you may not be judged. For as you judge, so will you be judged, and the measure with which you measure will be measured out to you. Why do you notice the splinter in your brother's eye, but do not perceive the wooden beam in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, 'Let me remove that splinter from your eye,' while the wooden beam is in your eye? You hypocrite, remove the wooden beam from your eye first; then you will see clearly to remove the splinter from your brother's eye."

Breaking the text open – background and summary:

The gospel for today continues our reading of Jesus’ “Sermon on the Mount.” Jesus speaks to us about judging others and about getting our own lives in order.

Meditating on the text with personal questions:

When was the last time I really looked at myself, my habits, and my grasp of living the life Christ calls me to live?

Praying:

LORD, Jesus Christ, Son of God, our Savior, You call us to stop judging others and to focus on our own lives, actions, and weaknesses. Send your Spirit to awaken the righteousness You call us to, the desire to live in right and loving relationship with our You and with one another.  Amen.
