Scripture Text:  Matthew 7:15-20

Jesus said to his disciples:

"Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but underneath are ravenous wolves. By their fruits you will know them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? Just so, every good tree bears good fruit, and a rotten tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a rotten tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire. So, by their fruits you will know them."

The gospel reading for today continues our reading from Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount as recorded in Matthew. Today’s text focuses on the fruit of our lives. Jesus tells us that the truly “good” of this world produce good fruit.

LORD, Almighty Father, I lift my voice in praise of You and all You are. Your power and presence in the world and my life, manifestations of your divine love, brought me into being and sustain me. Send your Spirit to guide me so that my life might more perfectly reflect your divine will and prove fruitful, beneficial. I ask this in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with You and the Spirit, one LORD, forever and ever. Amen.
