Daily Scripture Reflection & Prayer: June 30, 2024

Date: 13th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Scripture Text:  2 Cor 8:7, 9, 13-15

Brothers and sisters:

As you excel in every respect, in faith, discourse, knowledge, all earnestness, and in the love we have for you, may you excel in this gracious act also.

For you know the gracious act of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, for your sake he became poor, so that by his poverty you might become rich. Not that others should have relief while you are burdened, but that as a matter of equality your abundance at the present time should supply their needs, so that their abundance may also supply your needs, that there may be equality. As it is written: Whoever had much did not have more, and whoever had little did not have less.

Breaking the text open – background and summary:

The second reading for today, drawn from Paul’s 2nd Letter to the Corinthians, speaks of our call to care for one another by graciously sharing what we have for the good of another, for the good of all in faith and love.

Meditating on the text with personal questions:

How gracious and generous am I toward others? Do I naturally share? Do I earnestly seek to care for others with the blessings I myself have received?

Praying:

LORD,  Almighty Father, Beloved Son, Most Holy Spirit, we lift our hearts to You in praise and thanksgiving and with our voices we ask for your grace and blessings upon us and our community. Stir within us the earnest desire to see one another’s need and graciously address it, sharing what we have with one another, sisters and brothers in one LORD. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
