Daily Scripture Reflection & Prayer: June 9,2026

LECTIO - Read Scripture Text:   Matthew 5:13-16

“You are the salt of the earth, but if the salt has lost its flavor, with what can it be salted? It is good for nothing but to be thrown out and trodden under foot by men.

“You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do men light a candle and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick and it gives light to all that in the house. Let your light shine before men that they might see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven.”

BREAKING OPEN THE TEXT:

The gospel verses we read today immediately follow the Beatitudes and are a continuation of them calling the listener to active discipleship and loving accountability. As “salt of the earth,” we are called live who we are and not allow the world to mute the Good News we proclaim and live. As “light of the world,” Jesus reminds us that our faith is not “private” but rather meant to be shared and in sharing Christ with others, help to illuminate the world.

ORATIO – Lifting our minds and hearts to the LORD in prayer:

Almighty Father, You gave us the gift of your only-begotten Son to not only more fully reveal You to us but also to teach us not just with words but with deeds and actions who we are created to be. And He called us to follow Him, each carrying our own crosses, and journey in faith, in hope and in love. He called us to let the Good News be known through our words but also through our lives, our deeds and actions. Send the Spirit to help us more fully and wholly embrace the call and to use all given to us for love of Christ and for your glory. We ask this in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ who lives and reigns with You and the Spirit, one LORD, forever and ever. Amen.
