Daily Scripture Reflection & Prayer: May 10,2026

LECTIO - Read Scripture Text:   John 14:15-21

(Jesus said,) “If you love me, keep my commandments. And I will pray to the Father that he shall give you another Comforter that He may abide with you forever, the Spirit of truth whom the world cannot receive because it does not see Him or know him, but you know him because he dwells with you and shall be in you. I will not leave you comfortless. I will come to you. Yet for a little while, the world will no longer see me, but you see me because I live and you shall live also. On that day you shall know that I am in my Father and you in me and I in you. Whoever has and keeps my commandments loves me and whoever loves me shall be loved by my Father, and I will love him and dwell in him.”

BREAKING OPEN THE TEXT:

In today’s gospel reading, Jesus identifies the action of obeying his commandments as the sign of love for him, as evidence of our love for him. Jesus promises to ask the Father to send the gift of the Spirit. Through the Spirit, believers are brought into the life of the Trinity sharing the love between the Father and Son.

ORATIO – Lifting our minds and hearts to the LORD in prayer:

Lord, Jesus Christ, Son of God, our Savior, as I strive to love You as You command, following your commandments, I rely upon the gift of the Spirit sent from the Father because of your prayer on behalf of those who love You and believe in You. Grant that I may open myself fully to the gifts and guidance of the Spirit so that I might share in the love between You and the Father and that You and the Father will dwell in me as I strive to remain in You. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
