4th Sunday of Easter

Scripture Text:  John 10:27-30

Jesus said:“My sheep hear my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish. No one can take them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all,and no one can take them out of the Father’s hand. The Father and I are one.”

Breaking the text open – background and summary:

The short gospel reading for today is from the Gospel of John’s and occurs immediately after Jesus’ “Good Shepherd Discourse.”

Meditating on the text with personal questions:

Do I seek to distinguish Jesus’ voice from those of the world or my own selfishness?

Praying:

LORD, Almighty Father, You sent your only-begotten Son to dwell among us as our brother, taking on our human nature in all ways except sin. He opened our minds and hearts through His words and actions. He promised to shepherd us, to tend to us, to guide us, to give His life for us. And He kept His promises. Send your Spirit to help us cling more closely to His words and to His actions so that we might grow into the ones You created us to be. We ask this in the name of your beloved Son, Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with You and the Spirit, one LORD, forever and ever. Amen.
