5th Sunday of Easter
Scripture Text: John 13:31-33a, 34-35
When Judas had left them, Jesus said,“Now is the Son of Man glorified, and God is glorified in him. If God is glorified in him, God will also glorify him in himself, and God will glorify him at once. My children, I will be with you only a little while longer. I give you a new commandment: love one another. As I have loved you, so you also should love one another. This is how all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
Breaking the text open – background and summary:
The gospel text for today from Jesus’ “Final Discourse” with the disciples before His death and resurrection highlights the essential nature of love in our discipleship – and not just any love – but to love as He has loved us.
Meditating on the text with personal questions:
Is love the focus of my journey?
Praying:
LORD, You are love. With love, You create and You give us life. For love, You give yourself to us daily and call us to give ourselves to You. Grant that our journeys may be guided by your love until we can be with You wholly and truly forever and ever. Amen.
