LECTIO - Read Scripture Text: John 19:25-27
Now there stood by the cross of Jesus His mother, his aunt, Mary the wife of Cleopas, and Mary Magdalene. Jesus saw his mother and the disciple He loved standing near her. He said to his mother, “Woman, here is your son.” Then to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” From that moment the disciple took her into his own home.
MEDITATIO - Meditate on text, allow the LORD to touch us with His Word:
BREAKING OPEN THE TEXT:
Today’s gospel recounts Jesus’ exchange moments before His death between his mother, Mary, and the Apostle John. It is often referred to as Christ’s establishment of Mary as our blessed mother, as our spiritual mother. It is more than a simple arrangement for the care of His mother, it is acknowledgment of her role as mother of head of the church and of His mystical and living body.
ORATIO – Lifting our minds and hearts to the LORD in prayer:
Hail Mary, full of grace, the LORD is with you. Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
CONTEMPLATIO – Sitting with the LORD in silence for a minute or more
