Scripture Text: 1 Thessalonians 4:13-14
We do not want you to be unaware, brothers and sisters, about those who have fallen asleep, so that you may not grieve like the rest, who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose, so too will God, through Jesus, bring with him those who have fallen asleep.
Breaking the text open – background and summary:
The second reading today from Paul’s 1st Letter to the Thessalonians stresses our Christian hope of life with Christ after death.
Does my faith in Christ lead me to hope for what is to come for me after death?
Praying:
LORD, Almighty Father, your love for us, your daughters and sons, led to your gift of your only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, whom You sent to dwell among us, to take our human form and condition through His incarnation, to reveal your great love for us, and to reconcile us with You through his selfless sacrifice upon the cross at Calvary. Through his death, He conquered sin. Through his resurrection on the 3rd day, He conquered death. And we believe in His promise of life in abundance with You after our deaths. Grant that we may come to You in love in this life and that when this life ends, we will be joined with You in heaven, that we will be granted salvation and eternal life from You, through Christ, in the Spirit. We ask this in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with You and the Spirit, one LORD, forever and ever. Amen.

Thank you Kate!
