Scripture Text: Hebrews 10:11-14, 18

Brothers and sisters:

Every priest stands daily at his ministry, offering frequently those same sacrifices that can never take away sins. But this one offered one sacrifice for sins and took his seat forever at the right hand of God; now he waits until his enemies are made his footstool. For by one offering he has made perfect forever those who are being consecrated. Where there is forgiveness of these, there is no longer offering for sin.

Breaking the text open – background and summary:

The second reading was drawn from Paul’s Letter to the Hebrews and reminds us of Christ’s sacrifice for our sins and the forgiveness of our sins that flowed from that sacrifice.

Meditating on the text with personal questions:

Daily do I consider my life and seek forgiveness from Christ for the sins I have committed for which He has already paid?

Praying:

LORD, Almighty Father, You sent your beloved Son into the world to take on our human form and nature, to teach us and lead us as “the Way and the Truth and the Life”, and to offer himself, in obedience to You, for our sins. Send your Spirit to tenderize our minds and hearts and wills so that our minds are informed fully, our hearts are open to conforming to You and your love, and our fills are obedient to your desire for us and for our lives with You. Grant that we may always and everywhere know and proclaim your great love for us testified to most clearly and powerfully in the Son’s redeeming act upon the cross at Calvary in obedience to You and for love of You and love of us. We ask this in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with You and the Spirit, one LORD, forever and ever. Amen.
