Date: Memorial of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary
Scripture Text: Luke 19:45-48
Jesus entered the temple area and proceeded to drive out those who were selling things, saying to them,
“It is written, My house shall be a house of prayer,
but you have made it a den of thieves.”
And every day he was teaching in the temple area. The chief priests, the scribes, and the leaders of the people, meanwhile, were seeking to put him to death, but they could find no way to accomplish their purpose because all the people were hanging on his words.
Breaking the text open – background and summary:
Today’s gospel recounts Jesus’ driving out the vendors from the temple and calling all to proper worship and reverencing the sacred spaces.
Meditating on the text with personal questions:
Do I honor the sacred spaces? Do I hang on Jesus’ words when I read the scriptures?
Praying:
LORD, Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me for those times when I was not as reverent and present as I should be at liturgy. Send the Spirit to guide me and grace me and to open my mind and heart more fully to You and your presence. Help me to become the disciple You call me to be. Amen.
