Date: Tuesday of the 29th Week in Ordinary Time
Scripture Text: Luke 12:35-38
Jesus said to his disciples:
"Gird your loins and light your lamps and be like servants who await their master's return from a wedding, ready to open immediately when he comes and knocks. Blessed are those servants whom the master finds vigilant on his arrival. Amen, I say to you, he will gird himself, have them recline at table, and proceed to wait on them. And should he come in the second or third watch and find them prepared in this way, blessed are those servants."
Breaking the text open – background and summary:
Today’s gospel emphasizes the need for spiritual vigilance and faithful service. While Jesus is speaking of the second coming, His words apply to each of our lives because we do not know when our time here will end and we will find ourselves facing the Master.
Meditating on the text with personal questions:
Am I being spiritually vigilant or am I growing lax in my spiritual readiness? Am I actively serving the LORD or simply trying not to do wrong?
Praying:
LORD, Jesus Christ, Son of God, our Savior, we sit in prayer this day, considering your teachings and your example. We lift our minds and hearts to You and ask that You send your Spirit to re-energize and focus them so that we are more tuned in to You and what You want of us. Grant that our prayers may lead us to fuller life of serving You and to a richer spiritual life from the Father, through You, and in the Spirit. Amen.
