LECTIO - Read Scripture Text:   Luke 11:5-13

And He said to them, “Which of you has a friend to whom he goes at midnight and says, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves because a friend of mine has arrived at my house from a journey and I have nothing to put before him.’ And he responds to you from within saying, ‘Trouble me not. The door has already been shut, and my children and I are already in bed. I cannot get up to give you anything.’ I tell you, even if he does not get up to give to him because he is his friend, he will get up to give him whatever he needs because of his persistence.

“And I tell you, asl and you will receive, seek and you will find, knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. And the one who seeks, finds. And to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.

“If a son asks for bread from any of you who are his father, will he hand him a stone?  Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake?  Or if he shall ask for an egg will offer him a scorpion? If you who are wicked know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him?”

MEDITATIO - Meditate on text, allow the LORD to touch us with His Word:

How persistent am I in seeking the Heavenly Father’s loving help and the gift of the Spirit? Am I too proud? Am I too lazy?

BREAKING OPEN THE TEXT:

In today’s Gospel text, Jesus reaffirms for us the goodness of our Heavenly Father and how our Heavenly Father responds to our persistent pleas. He gives us the famous reminder: “Ask and you will receive, seek and you will find, knock and door will be opened.” The key is persistence in prayer.

ORATIO – Lifting our minds and hearts to the LORD in prayer:

Almighty and Loving Father, send your Spirit to embolden me in faith to ask, to seek, to knock. Give me the patience to wait in trust for your response. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen

CONTEMPLATIO – Sitting with the LORD in silence for a minute or more
