Date: Friday of the 24th Week in Ordinary Time
Scripture Text: Luke 8:1-3
Jesus journeyed from one town and village to another, preaching and proclaiming the good news of the Kingdom of God. Accompanying him were the Twelve and some women who had been cured of evil spirits and infirmities, Mary, called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out, Joanna, the wife of Herod's steward Chuza, Susanna, and many others who provided for them out of their resources.
Breaking the text open – background and summary:
Today’s gospel reminds us of those who followed Christ as He proclaimed the good news of the Kingdom of God throughout their region. In addition to the Twelve, there were several women who used their resources to provide for Christ and those in His company.
Meditating on the text with personal questions:
How willing am I to truly follow Christ wherever the need arises? How generous am I with my time, with my personal resources, for the sake of the Gospel?
Praying:
LORD, Jesus Christ, Son of God, our Savior, we seek to follow You as You commanded, denying ourselves, picking up our own crosses, and following You. Send your Spirit to aide us in putting love of You ahead of ourselves and our own egos and desires. Grant that we may be strengthen for our journeys of faith, hope and love. Help us to open not only our minds and hearts to You and to “the Way and the Truth and the Life,” but also to open ourselves to using all at our disposal to bring You to others and others to You. May our lives be a testament to your great love for us for the glory of the Father in the Spirit. Amen.
