Scripture Text: Luke 9:43b-45
While they were all amazed at his every deed, Jesus said to his disciples, "Pay attention to what I am telling you. The Son of Man is to be handed over to men." But they did not understand this saying; its meaning was hidden from them so that they should not understand it, and they were afraid to ask him about this saying.
Breaking the text open – background and summary:
Today’s short gospel text from Luke reminds us of Jesus’ earthly mission and works all the while knowing that his love for humanity would cost Him his life.
Meditating on the text with personal questions:
Am I willing to suffer for good? How much? How long?
Praying:
LORD, Jesus Christ, Son of God, our Savior, we come to You, seeking to follow You and to serve You. Send your Spirit to help us as we seek to deny self, pick up our own crosses, and follow You. Grant that we may be graced with strength and resolve to live the love and goodness You call us to daily. May our day bring us closer being the disciples You call us to be and the daughters and sons of the Almighty Father we are created to be. Amen.
