Evening Quiet (12/13/2024)

The last few days have been somewhat hectic. All right, most days for most of us are somewhat hectic. I could feel the need for some moments of intentional quiet and focusing. So, after supper when my husband went downstairs to take care of a few things before our 7 p.m. movie, I sat in my chair, stared at the nativity scene and wreath above my fireplace, and sought the peace that radiated from them. Don’t you find quiet to be a gift?
Our season of preparation can be so full, probably too full. It is easy to get caught up in the flow, going from one activity to the next without stopping to allow the experiences to register, the meaning of the season to penetrate our hearts and minds. Last evening, sitting in my chair, enjoying the warmth of the fire on a very cold evening and taking in the serenity of the nativity scene, I found my breathing slowing down, my racing mind pausing, my very being more at peace. Thank you, LORD, I needed that.
As we scurry along during this packed and busy “season of preparation,” let us remember always what the preparations are all about, or to be more accurate, Who the preparations are all about – our Savior. Let us take the time to sit mindfully and contemplate who we are because He is. Let us seek to make room for Him in our hearts and on our schedules.
Let us consider 10 minutes a day with a nativity scene to prayerfully prepare room in our minds and hearts for our LORD, Jesus Christ, our Savior. Let us clear away the unnecessary clutter and truly make room.
Until tomorrow, let us all love well.
