Getting There from Here (08/25/2024)

The summer before my senior year of high school, my father took me with him on a trip back to Waycross, Georgia. Waycross is where I had mostly grown up; however, we moved to Sioux City, Iowa the summer before my junior year. He had business in Waycross. He planned to drive; he said that I could help with the driving. It was over 1300 miles one way.
The second day on the road, dad was getting tired. So, he asked me to drive while he took a short nap. I was thrilled. I sat up straight, I watched the traffic, I watched my speed, but I missed my turn. When he woke up from his short nap, he knew immediately what had happened. I was so upset when he told me. But he taught me an important lesson in life that day. He said, “It’s okay. You can get anywhere from where you are.” He took the map, he told me where to turn, and somehow, he got me back to the right route.
As I said, the lesson that day has gone forward with me throughout my life. When I find myself in territory that I know isn’t right for my journey, I remember his words, “You can get anywhere from where you are.” I don’t have him by my side with that AAA map, but I do have the Spirit to guide me. I know that once I admit to my LORD that I am lost, that once I ask for help in getting back on the right path, I can get there, no matter where I am at the moment.
Recently, as I was prayerfully journaling, I recognized that I was “off route.” It happened, as it usually does, slowly but steadily. I realized that I wasn’t going the way I knew I should. I turned to the LORD, I admitted what we both knew but my admission was necessary to turn the journey around. And I asked for help.
How about you? Are you “on the way” or do you find yourself “off route”?
We can get there from here, but not alone. We need the Spirit as our navigator and our Savior as our light.
Until tomorrow, let us all love well.
