Gotta Trust (10/03/2026)

Not too long ago, someone asked me my favorite part of the Exodus Story in the Hebrew Scriptures, I had to admit it was the story of the manna. The LORD provided what the Israelites needed day by day. The LORD didn’t disappoint. The LORD kept His promise. But the people were still slow to trust, and when they didn’t trust and took more manna than they could consume that day, the extra rotted. It’s a truth I try to carry with me day to day – the LORD provides, but I gotta trust.

Trust hasn’t always been easy for me. And my relationship with the LORD wasn’t an exception. In fact, I have struggled many times. But time after time, I have come to realize that the LORD is loving, the LORD keeps His promise, and the LORD is trustworthy.

In our modern world, I am pretty certain that I am not the only one who struggles with trust. And when we don’t trust what we can see, it is even more difficult to trust Him whom we can’t. But we have role models who help us if we let them. I know one such role model for me is Paul. He struggled greatly in his discipleship, in his efforts to be the one Christ called him to be. He was shipwrecked, he was persecuted, he was arrested, he was martyred, but from that moment on the road to Damascus on, he trusted Christ. One of my favorite passages from his letter is Hebrews 10:23: “Let us hold unwaveringly to our confession that gives us hope, for he who made the promise is trustworthy.”

I will always remember one of my darkest days which led to a powerful revelation for me. I have shared it before, I think even recently, that when I didn’t understand the trials I was undergoing, my father invited me to look at a crucifix and reminded me that the LORD takes care of good people, it’s just that it doesn’t always look like what we expect. And in that moment, Christ called me to come closer. He kept His promise. When I was in need, He was there. And in prayer and with time, I came to understand that I had outgrown my immature theology but not my need for Him who alone can satisfy my heart’s desire – Christ.  “Remain in me and I will remain in you” He tells us. And time and experience tells me, He is trustworthy. When I feel that emptiness, it is not Him who has moved.

As we continue our journeys in faith, let us bear in mind the story of the Israelites in the desert on the Exodus journey and the LORD’s way of calling them to rely upon Him and trust Him. Let us recall the example of Paul who trusted in Christ even in the midst of worldly hardships and physical suffering. Let us bring our needs to the LORD assured that He hears our prayers and provides means for us to prosper, but we must learn to rely on Him. We gotta trust.

Until tomorrow, let us all love well.
