Here Goes Something (07/14/2026)

I heard that old saying that to me makes absolutely no sense – “Here goes nothing!”  I remember hearing it when I was younger, and since it made no sense, I asked an adult what it meant. I was told it was an expression used when one was doing something they didn’t feel would succeed or help the situation. When I heard that explanation, I wondered why anyone would try anything without hope. I still wonder about that.

Hope is essential for humanity. And I think we should consider modeling the potential when we undertake something; I feel that if it is worth doing, it worth doing full of hope.

One of my favorite New Testament texts is Hebrews 10:23-24:

Let us hold unwaveringly to our confession that gives us hope, for he who made the promise is trustworthy. We must consider how to rouse one another to love and good works.

The source of our hope is our LORD. Always was, always will be. Because of our LORD’s power and presence operative in our lives and in our world, we are people of hope. Our hope allows us to tackle the difficult and to avoid discouragement. While we will face many trials in our life as disciples of Christ, we have hope because we know that the promises of Christ will not disappoint, we know that Christ is trustworthy.

As we continue our journeys in Christ, let us be people of great hope, people who tackle the difficult guided by faith, buoyed by hope, and fueled by love. Let us be people who seek the LORD’s help before we begin and who rely upon the graces of the LORD that our efforts will bear fruit. Let us be the ones who say, “Here goes something” as we seek to rouse others to love and good works.

Whether we are making a grilled cheese sandwich for another or building a Habitat for Humanity home, whether we are teaching a 6^th grade class about the scriptures or donating a kidney to a stranger in need, let us do it because we are people of faith, we are people formed by love, and we are people who have hope that what we do in Christ’s name matters.
