It’s Not About Me (12/25/2025)

My oldest sister, Betty, used to frequently say, “It’s not about me,” as she explained her actions or her feelings. And this morning, those words flood my mind and heart. Today is not about me. It’s all about the Christ child. It’s Christmas and we are called to remember and celebrate this day that began Christ’s transformative life among us.

It’s a day of wonder as we recall Christ’s birth at the end of a difficult journey by Joseph and Mary from Nazareth to Bethlehem. It’s a time when we consider the lack of room for the holy family in that City of David and consider if there is room this day for this most wondrous of beings in our lives, in our hearts. It’s a time when we recall the appearance of angels to shepherds in the field, alerting them to the marvelous presence and the shepherds’ journey to see for themselves. Will we make that journey mentally and spiritually to Christ ourselves.

Today is not about me. It’s not about you either. It’s all about Christ. What will I make of this day and this opportunity? What will you make of it?

May our Christmas celebration bring us closer to ourselves as we draw to closer to our loving LORD.

Until tomorrow, let us all love well.
