There is something about Monday mornings, they are just harder to start. My weekend relaxation mode resists turning over control to the Monday morning “to do list.” This morning, as I stood at my coffee pot and looked out to the porch, I could tell it was raining. I suggested to my guardian angel that this development was not helpful. But then I took my cup of coffee and ventured out. And as I sat down in my usual chair, there they were: the blooming begonia and Freddie my frog. And my mood changed immediately. Love does that.
The plant and Freddie are gifts from my daughter and grandsons. I love their reasons for being on my porch as I love the ones who gave them to me. As I looked at those beautiful blooms that not only remind me my Creator’s power and presence but also my daughter’s presence in my life, how could I not feel blessed? And one look at that face on Freddie always brings a smile. Who could refuse to smile back at that face?
So, I sat down, surrounded by reminders that I do not go alone: a beautiful plant, a fanciful frog, the raindrops outside my porch refreshing the plants and the farm fields. I gave thanks for another day and I prayed for the others on my list for whom I’d promised to pray. Finally, I prayed for us as children of God that we open ourselves this day to the LORD’s transformative love and will for us all.
Monday morning are still not my favorite moments in the week, but today I was reminded that I do not make this journey alone. I pray that I might be an instrument of the LORD in the lives of others as my daughter and her thoughtfulness have been in mine. Little things make a difference.
Until tomorrow, let us all love well.
