New Eyes (05/31/2026)

This week my husband and I are blessed to have his sister visiting. She brings so much life with her and joy. It is a delight. But the biggest gift has been her “new eyes.” As she sees something we’ve grown used to and she speaks of it, it is as if we are able to see our world through her eyes and more clearly recognize the blessings in abundance.

As I pondered my time with her before bed last night, I thanked the LORD for the blessing I’d stopped giving thanks for that she had reminded me I am still receiving. And this morning, as I started the day, I asked the LORD to bless me with the eyes that recognize His touch and presence more clearly. I asked for “new eyes.”

Gratitude makes such a huge difference in our lives and in ourselves. When we operate from a understanding of the gifts we have received in blessings and graces and the power and presence of our LORD at work in our lives, we are happier, we are blessed. I “know” this but somehow recently in the rush and in the craziness of our modern world with demands and issues everywhere, I needed this reminder of the not only the benefits of gratitude in our lives but the very need for it. Without it, we can slip into thinking it is all us, that we are alone are and we alone matter. And that simply isn’t true.

“I am the way and the truth and the life.” Jesus told us and if we are wise, we will listen. We need to follow Him, we need to accept Him and the truth He brings as the WORD of God living, and then and only then will we have life. And He was clear. It is only because of God that we are, it is only in God that we will flourish. “Remain in me as I remain in you.”

As we continue our journeys of faith, buoyed by hope, and fueled by love, let us see anew, let us see with new eyes, let us re-discover the ways the LORD is with us and in us and working through us. Let us notice all that is here because GOD is, most especially our loved ones. And let us be people of joy because we are people of gratitude who see just how much the LORD loves us.
