Port in the Storm (06/11/2026)

We had serious storms roll through our neighborhood yesterday. I was on the porch as they approached, and it went from humidly still to a tree bending gale in seconds. It scared me. Shortly after I sought shelter inside, my granddaughter arrived. She’d been in the town over doing part of her research at the company farm when the storm hit. She came in and we visited until the storm passed. We were happy to provide a port in the storm.
I know I’ve had moments when I needed a port in a storm, and it wasn’t always weather related. But thankfully, I have been blessed with a series of safe harbors in the form of good people who have been there along the way. Last evening, as I pondered my day prayerfully, the LORD helped me to remember those times and those individuals who opened their homes, their hearts, and their lives to me when I was in need. My prayer time led me to remember how important it is for us to accompany others on the way and to be there when they are in need.
God writes straight with crooked lines, as a friend taught me years ago. Yesterday, the LORD used a storm and my granddaughter to open me to realizing how important it is to be there for others along the way and to open myself more to the needs of others I might encounter. The LORD tells us we do not go alone. He is with us always. And many times, it is through another person who sees us and helps us in our need. And sometimes, it is us that the LORD taps to be the safe harbor, to open ourselves and maybe even our home to the need of another.
Let us be the light the LORD calls us to be, a reflection of His love at work in the world. It may well be what others on their journey need and what draws them from the storm.
Until tomorrow, let us all love well.
