For decades, as a catechist and faith formation director, I urged the students to recognize that they were called to be saints. I asked them to look around them for individuals who were striving to live as the LORD calls us to live. Then we invited those individuals to a party and honored them for their example to us. And we ended by reminding the youth that they were called to be saints in the making just as those they’d named.
I was thinking about that today and wondering about my own journey. What kind of example am I giving to the youth around me, to anyone for that matter? Am I living like I am called to live, as a “saint in the making”? How am I using my life, my days, my moments? Whom am I serving? Have I discerned the LORD’s specific call to me? How am I responding? How am I trying to be who the LORD called me to be? Am I specifically seeking daily to serve the LORD or am I just trying to avoid the big sins?
Our journey involves so many choices and our choices concerning our relationship with the LORD are essential to that journey. As we continue on our journeys, let us seek to be people of faith, buoyed by hope, and fueled by love. Let us be intentional about our journey, keeping the LORD in our sights and inviting Him to dwell in our hearts. Every day, let us specifically choose the LORD’s way and guidance. Let us be willing to set down our desires for the LORD’s will.
We are all called to be saints. In our imperfection, let us not lose sight of that call.
Until tomorrow, let us all love well.
