Seeing Him in Another Soul (10/21/2024)

Do you know why I speak to others? Why I ask their names? Why I visit with them, my eyes on them? I am hoping to see Him in another’s soul.

St. Thérèse of Lisieux wrote beautifully about her spiritual journey and awakening to the realization of the LORD’s ways and presence. One of my favorite quotes from her is “Our LORD does not come from heaven every day to stay in a golden ciborium. He comes to find another heaven, which is infinitely dearer to him - the heaven of our souls.”

I know the LORD is present to me when I go to Church. I obtain great strength from sitting in His presence and drawing upon His love. I know the LORD is present to me when I sit alone and pray. But I will be remiss if I do not recognize Him in you.

We speak about the LORD coming to us and remaining in us if we remain in Him. I believe that to my core. I believe that He remains in me as He calls me constantly to remain in Him. And how could I not believe that the same is happening around me? To others?

And daily I do encounter the LORD in others: in their love, in their hope, in their faith, in their kindness, in their care for others, in their desire to share, in their presence, in their joy. And as I grow older having experienced the LORD in so many places and in so many people, I have been blessed to know the LORD better through pray but also through faith lived.

Have you ever sung the song “Anthem” in church? It has a beautiful and thought provoking refrain:

We are called, we are chosen. We are Christ for one another.

We are promised to tomorrow, while we are for him today.

We are sign, we are wonder. We are sower, we are seed.

We are harvest, we are hunger. We are question, we are creed.

As we continue to go about, watching for Him, let us pray, “LORD, let me bear your love and light to others.”

Until tomorrow, let us all love well.
