Silent and Listen (03/11/2026)

This week, when I was pretty sure I had turned the corner on learning and was forgetting rather than getting, I was watching HGTV and the one decorator who had interjected an opinion with a client when he shouldn’t have was told by the other that his job was to “listen” which is the same as “silent” – same letters just scrambled. I didn’t know that! Well, I did know it, technically, but I’d never recognized it.

Our walk with the LORD can be a lot like my experience this week. We technically know the LORD is with us always and everywhere, but we often don’t recognize it, we often don’t recognize Him, we often don’t acknowledge Him. And I remember the Gospel story of the apostles on the road to Emmaus and their surprise and awe when they recognized the one with them, when they finally realized it was Jesus.

And I wonder why the LORD let me get all this way without realizing so many things. I know the learning curve of life is steep. I know we are not to consider ourselves “done muffins” anywhere along the way. And I know the LORD realizes I’m not getting any younger. Then I stop, I fall silent, I listen, and it happens. Our LORD is an awesome LORD.

In this age of artificial intelligence and scientific marvels, I pray that we all look for the LORD around us, with us, in us. I pray that we don’t lose the ability to be silent and to listen. I pray that we remain open to the LORD’s power and presence at work around us and in us, manifestations of His love. And I pray that we don’t forget we’re not “done muffins” yet.

As we continue our Lenten journeys in faith, hope and love, let us commit to being “silent” once in a while and let us “listen” to the LORD and for the LORD. It sounds so simple, but “Be still and know that I Am LORD” isn’t easy for we humans, but it is necessary if we are to become all we are created to be in Him, with Him, and through Him.

Until tomorrow, let us all love well.
